Reasons to love Laser Pigmentation Removal

Gentle, safe and almost completely pain-free, Laser Pigmentation Removal is a great way to achieve smoother-textured skin, and a more even skin tone.

It can treat a range of pigmentation concerns and can be performed on both the face and the body.

How Laser Pigmentation Removal works

Our medical-grade Candela Pro Max laser sends a safe, concentrated beam of light onto any areas with unwanted pigment, such as areas with sun damage, freckles, or age spots.

The light attracts the pigment, causing it to darken and rise to the surface of the skin – where after a week or two, the treated area flakes away, leaving a more even skin tone in its place.

Preparing for your treatment

Unfortunately, this treatment is only effective on lighter skin tones – if you’re not sure if that includes you, our trained therapists can advise you. For darker skin tones one of our skin peels or microneedling may be more appropriate.

You'll need to visit us for a patch test before we can schedule your full appointment – the test is quick and simple, but it’s important for checking your skin's response to the treatment.

For at least 4 weeks before your treatment, please avoid sun or UV exposure.

You should also avoid any active ingredients such as AHA's, BHA's, retinal treatments for 48 hours before your appointment.

For 2-4 weeks before, avoid any other skin treatments such as chemical peels or Microneedling. Also avoid any laser hair removal treatments.

We recommend shaving any areas of treatment that have hair growth over them. This will help us give you a much more effective and comfortable treatment.

For pigmentation caused by hormonal concerns such as Melasma or Chloasma, or for acne scarring, we recommend chemical peels or Microneedling. We are also unable to treat any raised forms of pigmentation or lesions. If you're unsure about the best treatment for your skin, book in a complimentary consultation and one of our therapists will be happy to advice on a treatment plan.

After-treatment care

Once your treatment is complete, you should avoid exfoliating for at least 5 days. After 5 days you can begin gently exfoliating the area 1-2x a week.

You should also avoid sun or UV exposure to the treated area/s for 2 weeks after your treatment.

To help calm and soothe your skin after your Laser Pigmentation Removal, we recommend applying a soothing gel. Our LED Light Therapies can also be really helpful in speeding up the healing process.

No exercise should be done for 48 hours.

Laser Pigmentation Removal is almost entirely painless – you’ll feel a very slight sensation with each laser pulse, but the pain is very light.

You’ll need to wait 1-2 weeks for the area of treated skin to flake away – after which you’ll notice a visible difference to the skin beneath.

We recommend returning for up to 4 treatments every 4-6 weeks for lasting results – although if you spend a lot of your time in the sun, you’ll likely need a course of treatments every year.

Each treatment takes 15-35 minutes, depending on the size of the areas treated.

There is minimal downtime with Laser Pigmentation Removal. Typically most clients have some minor redness to the treatment area for 24hrs after treatment. For the next 10 days your pigment will darken and then begin to flake off. It is important to let this process run it's course as trying to pick or scratch at the pigment could cause scarring to occur.

After a week has passed you can follow your treatment up with a gentle microdermabrasion. This will help buff off the remaining pigmentation and leave your skin soft and clear.

Laser pigmentation is most suitable for concerns such as age spots, sun spots and freckles. We recommend coming in to see one of our expert therapists for a consultation so that they can assess the area and create a treatment plan for you.

For pigmentation that's been caused by hormonal concerns such as Melasma or Chloasma, we recommend chemical peels or Microneedling to target these concerns, as these treatments won't heat the skin. We also recommend these treatments for concerns such as acne scarring, as these pigment marks are often more red-based.

We cannot treat any raised forms of pigmentation or lesions.

If you're unsure about the best treatment for your skin concern, book in a complimentary consultation and one of our therapists will be happy to advice on a treatment plan.
